American rapper, Melissa Viviane Jefferson, popularly known as Lizzo, has made a startling announcement regarding her future in music.
In an Instagram post, Lizzo revealed her decision to step away from the music industry, citing relentless online trolling over her appearance as the primary reason for her decision.
Expressing her frustration and exhaustion, Lizzo declared that she was tired of enduring constant criticism and ridicule for her looks, both in her personal life and on social media platforms.
She emphasized her desire to focus on her passion for making music and spreading joy, but lamented feeling unwelcome and attacked by the world around her.
Lizzo also lamented the prevalence of falsehoods and malicious gossip surrounding her, fueled by a desire for attention and internet fame.
She expressed anguish over being continuously mocked and dissected based solely on her appearance, with her character unfairly scrutinized by strangers who know nothing about her true self.
Feeling overwhelmed by the negativity and disrespect she faces daily, Lizzo announced her decision to withdraw from the music scene, stating that she never signed up for such relentless scrutiny and mistreatment.
She wrote: “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.
“All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.
“I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look.
“My character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this s**t. I quit.”
KanyiDaily recalls that singer, Bella Shmurda also announced his decision to quit music, saying he wants to focus on being a TikTok influencer, emphasising how lucrative the social media platform is.
