Kuriga schoolchildren, recently released from abduction, have arrived at the Kaduna government house to meet with the state Governor, Uba Sani.
On Sunday, the Kaduna State Government announced the release of the schoolchildren in a statement signed by Governor Uba Sani.
Governor Sani clarified that contrary to previous reports, 137 schoolchildren were abducted on March 7, 2024, not 287 as initially stated.
Arriving at Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House around 2:09 p.m. on Monday, the schoolchildren were escorted by five buses from 1 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters in Kaduna, with tight security measures in place.
The schoolchildren, who were dressed in fresh attire, underwent medical examinations before reaching the government house Monday afternoon.
The students’ release makes the end of their captivity after being abducted by bandits from their schools in the Kuriga community, Chikun LGA, on March 7.
Governor Sani mentioned that all 137 abducted students had been released, except for the teacher who tragically passed away while in captivity.

KanyiDaily had also reported how bandits allegedly killed a 53-year-old baker, Tijani Amedu and abducted his 13 relatives, mainly children, who were traveling with him in the Katari area of Kaduna state.
