Senator Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians and members of the incoming 10th National Assembly not to judge him using his brief tenure as minister of Niger Delta Affairs.

The former governor of Akwa Ibom state said he preferred to be judged by his record as a lawyer of 36 years, a commissioner for six years, and a governor for eight years.

Akpabio reveals how he should be judged

He made this plea during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Saturday night, May 20, according to The Punch.

Akpabio, who is senator-elect for Akwa Ibom North West, is one of the contenders for the office of the senate president for the 10th National Assembly, scheduled for inauguration on June 6.

He promised that if elected Senate President, Nigerians he would sustain the January-December budget cycle initiated by the 9th National Assembly, Daily Independent report added.

Godswill Akpabio, one of the contenders for the next Senate president of the 10th National Assembly, has tactically proven to the All Progressives Congress (APC) that he has the support of the majority of the senators.

This is as the Akwa-Ibom-born politician led 42 other senators under the tag, Integrity Group, to meet with the national chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu and members of the national working committee (NWC) of the party.

The former minister, during his visit on Tuesday, May 16, assured stability for the lawmakers in the Red Chamber if elected as the senate president.

Meanwhile, more pressure has begun to heap on the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the leadership of the incoming 10th National Assembly.

Despite the nomination of his preferred candidates, there have been agitations against his choices.

Tinubu left out the representation of women in his nomination, thereby causing an outcry for the consideration of a female lawmaker for the deputy speaker seat.
