INEC breaks silence on uploading of presidential election results on IRev portal

• INEC has said that Nigerians can now view the February 25 presidential election results of over 170k polling units on its IREV portal
• Festus Okoye, the national commissioner of INEC, disclosed that Nigerians should expect all the results by Tuesday, March 14
• According to Okoye, Nigerians have the right to agitate, but the commission would not be allowed political parties to have access to BVAS backends

FCT, Abuja – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that over 170,000 polling units of the February 25 presidential and national assembly election results are now available on its Result Viewing Portal.

The Punch reported that Festus Okoye, the INEC national commissioner and chairman of the information and voter education committee, made this known while featuring on Channels Television programme’s Politics Today on Sunday evening, March 12.

Has INEC uploaded polling units’ presidential election results on its portal?

Okoye disclosed that the electoral body is currently reconfiguring the Bimodal Voter Registration Systems (BVAS) for the March 18 governorship and state assembly elections.

According to Okoye, any BVAS deployed at the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections without accreditation at the backend would not be reconfigured.

His statement reads in part:

“I’m sure that by Tuesday when we hope to complete the resettling of the BVAS for the purposes of the governorship and state assembly elections, the results in all the places where elections were conducted would have been pushed to the accreditation backend.”

The INEC commissioner maintained that Nigerians have the constitutional and legal right to protest.

However, he stated that political parties would not be allowed access to the engine home of BVAS or voters’ biometrics.

He stressed that INEC was empowered to regulate political parties, and the commission would not allow the aggrieved political parties to let it deviate from its core responsibilities.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has mocked Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the PDP in the just concluded presidential election, for staging a protest at INEC headquarters.

Wike, alongside 4 PDP governors, had earlier vowed to cripple the chances of Atiku in the poll over his failure to honour the rotation formula embedded in the PDP constitution.

The governor said he was drinking a 40-year-old whisky as he watched Atiku and the leaders of PDP acting like students union chanting songs of aluta (protest) at INEC headquarters.
