TThe Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command CP Umar Mamman Sanda har ordered for the arrest of Angry Youths in Yelwa in Bauchi local government area that beat a suspected Motorcycle thief to death.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil confirmed the incident today He said ” the Commissioner ordered a thorough investigation into the barbaric and dehumanizing act of jungle justice meted on a 22yrs old Ambima John by some irate youths in Yelwa,”
Wakil said ” intel was received from an anonymous person that one Ambima John ‘m’ aged 22yrs of Doka, a notorious motorcycle snatcher kingpin was beaten up to coma by an irate mob for attempting to rob a motorcycle. “
He said “The scene was visited by patrol team Yelwa and evacuated the victim to ATBU Teaching Hospital Bauchi for treatment, later certified him dead by a medical Doctor.”
Wakil said While reacting to the ugly incident CP Sanda, frowned at the action of the irate youths, who instead of taking the suspect to the Police for proper investigation and prosecution, mob the suspect arrested for allegedly stealing of motorcycle to death without any recourse to the law.
He described the act as barbaric and inimical to the law governing our dear country and warned Bauchi State indigenes that the Command under his stewardship will not tolerate or allow some recalcitrant in the society to take the laws into their hands by killing suspects arrested for an alleged crime in such a dehumanizing and unlawful manner and warned that nobody has the right to treat a suspect in such a barbaric manner and it is wrong for anyone to assume the position of a law enforcement agency, suspect apprehended in connection with any crime should be mediately handed over to the police or any law enforcement agencies saddled with the responsibility of investigating and prosecuting such.
The Commissioner of Police appeals to the general public to be calm, as the investigation commenced in earnest.
