According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, a tanker crushed five vehicles at the Otedola Bridge outside of Lagos on Thursday night, injuring nine people.
The event was confirmed by the FRSC’s Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander, Olusegun Ogungbemide, to The PUNCH.
The accident happened at 10:40 p.m. on Thursday, according to the FRSC Commander, while the vehicles were attempting to connect the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Despite the fact that no lives were lost, the injured people were transferred to Emergency Centre Ojota and the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja, according to him.
The cause of the crash was unknown at the time of filing this report, according to Ogungbemide, who also stated that the tanker’s driver fled the scene before a team of emergency responders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos Fire Service, and the Lagos State Police Command, began rescue operations.
The Otedola Bridge has a long history of road accidents, mostly involving fuel-laden tankers and lorries that frequently burst, resulting in fires, burned vehicles, and the loss of life and property.
Because of the high number of deadly incidents at the bridge, many motorists believe there are demons at work.
The FRSC, on the other hand, has maintained that there are no demons, witches, or wizards at the bridge, blaming careless drivers who drive expired trucks for the numerous incidents.
Stakeholders have also stated that the Otedola Bridge is experiencing construction issues, and have warned road users to proceed with extreme caution when crossing the bridge.
