Three days ago, we reported that Israel Adesanya wants to bring his first UFC title belt down to Africa. Well, that could happen anytime soon because the Nigerian won a fight on Saturday, a victory which earned him the interim UFC middleweight belt in Atlanta.
Adesanya was up against American fighter, Kevin Gastelum. The contest was understandably fierce, as both men took blows after blows, until the fifth round, when the judges declared Adesanya the winner via a unanimous decision.
This brings the Nigerian’s record to an impressive six wins and no losses in just 14 months since his UFC debut. While some people think that he’s going too fast and will crash soon, the 29-year-old seems pretty unstoppable at the moment.
Although the middleweight title is interim — given when the original champion is unable to compete for a long period of time —it’s clear that Adesanya is built to take down any competition he faces. We’re hoping he does just that when he faces Robert Whittaker in a unification fight later this year.
