At the start of the year, Falz dropped his fourth studio album, Moral Instruction. On the tape, he covered topics ranging from corrupt politicians on “Talk”, to judgemental citizens on the Demmie Vee-assisted “Hypocrite”, which has now be given a fitting music video.
On the Sess-produced track, Falz raps about self-righteous sinners who judge others even though their crimes are greater. The video for “Hypocrite” depicts some of these cases — from a man stealing during prayer to a pedophile grooming a young boy.
In the frightening, Prodigeezy-directed video, the hypocrites Falz describes are made to look like zombies, their eyes sent to the back of their head leaving a lifeless white blockade in place of the windows to their soul.
It would have been great if both stars also became zombies, as that would have fully illustrated the fact that we are all hypocrites. Neither of them is faultless, yet they made a song judging others for judging others – the irony of their hypocrisy is entangling.
Still, the message that we should focus inward on our own wrongdoings, as opposed to viciously condemning others, is an important one to take home from the song and video — if only Falz adhered to the advice he’s dished out.
