Ahead of the Easter celebrations for Christian faithful in Nigeria, the federal government, through the ministry of interior, on Tuesday, March 30, declared public holidays.

According to a statement by the minister, Rauf Aregbesola, the holidays are Friday, April 2, and Monday, April 4.

Aregbesola urged Christians to follow after forbearance, forgiveness, kindness, humility, love, peace, and patience, embodied in the life of Jesus Christ.

The minister also urged believers to use the occasion of the 2021 Easter celebration to call on God for peace, unity, and progress of the country.

The former governor of Osun also assured citizens that the government will not relent in its efforts to deal with the spate of kidnapping, armed banditry, and other crimes and criminality ravaging the nation.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday afternoon, March 30, departed Abuja for his routine medical check-up in London, United Kingdom.

The Nigerian leader took-off in one of the jets in the presidential fleet from the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.

His spokesman, Femi Adesina via a short statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday, March 29, noted that Buhari was due back in the country during the second week of April 2021.

Prior to his departure, Buhari ordered the service chiefs and other security and intelligence coordinators of the nation to mark bandits, kidnappers as well as their sponsors and take them out.

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Major-General Babagana Monguno, disclosed this after a security meeting, chaired by the Nigerian president in the State House, Abuja.

The president also warned the security chiefs that a situation where criminals dictate the pace of security events in the country should be ended immediately, ordering them to be proactive.
