NFF To Build Two Football Pitches In Each State Of The Federation & The FCT

A few days ago, Nigeria played an international friendly against Egypt at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba. After the game, William Troost-Ekong rightly complained about how bad the pitch was, saying it almost led to the defeat of the Super Eagles.

Now, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has resolved to take action by building two football pitches in each of the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Daily Trust, the NFF took the decision at a meeting in Asaba on Monday, and from what we know now, work on the first batch of new pitches is expected to start as early as the end of this month.

This project is crucial for football development in Nigeria because, although Asaba has hosted fans to a number of memorable international games, it’s certainly time to expand. So, we’re glad the NFF has committed to doing this.

If it pulls through, it means Nigeria will have 74 more football pitches. So long as up to half of them are up to standard, the country stands a great chance of winning the hosting rights for future international tournaments. How cool would that be?
