January signing, John Obi Mikel will lead Middlesbrough’s promotion charge in a top-of-the-bill Championship clash with third-placed Sheffield United at Bramall Lane tonight (Wednesday), Completesports.com reports.

The-31-year-old was excellent while also producing a high-class midfield display in Middlesbrough’s 1-1 draw with Championship leaders, Leeds United at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

And he will be hoping to continue the good run which saw top UK website, yorkshirepost.co.uk giving the Nigerian international a high rating of 8 after he marshalled Boro’s midfield well.

Mikel was in the starting line-up for the third time and the Super Eagles’ skipper saw out the game with Boro fifth on 51 points from 30 league matches as the Premier League promotion race heats up.

Tony Pulis’ side have had to face fellow promotion chasers in their last two matches with the Sheffield game set to be the third in a row.

Mikel’s Boro are in good form in the Championship, though, as they are unbeaten in six matches and have taken four points from fellow promotion contenders, West Bromwich Albion and Leeds in succession.
