Champions Lobi Stars moved out of the relegation zone in the Nigeria Professional Football League table following a hard fought 2-1 win against MFM in their rescheduled matchday- three encounter at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi on Wednesday.
Former Enyimba midfielder Dare Ojo gave Lobi Stars the lead in the 16th minute with a trademark long range effort which sailed past MFM’s debutant goalkeeper Olatunji Odekunle.
Group A leaders MFM however drew level in the 28th minute through Chijioke Akuneto who tapped home Michael Ohanu’s cross after a good counter-attacking move.
Bashiru Monsuru, who linked up with Lobi Stars from MFM FC during the mid-season break last term, scored the winning goal for the hosts 20 minutes from time.
Victory lifts Lobi Stars out of the relegation zone despite still having four games outstanding. They are now sixth on the Group A log with eleven points from six matches.
MFM FC remain top of the Group with eighteen points from nine matches and will face Bendel Insurance in their next league game at the Agege Stadium on Sunday.
Lobi Stars meanwhile will face Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas in their final CAF Champions League group game in Enugu on Sunday having no chance of progressing to the next round of the competition.
The NPFL will resume from the election break this weekend with week 10 matches across different centres in the country.
