#ENDSARS protesters attacked by thugs allegedly sponsored by govt in Lagos state
The men of the Nigerian police and security operatives guarding the state’s Assembly were missing as the thugs arrived.
The thugs came in large numbers with cutlasses and knives to attack the protesters.
Protesters were also attacked by thugs on Wednesday but were overpowered and repelled. The thugs came back on Thursday morning and attacked the protesters as they were converging for the day’s protest.
Alawusa, commonly known as Alausa is a principal district in Ikeja, the state capital of Lagos State. It is the seat of the Lagos State Secretariat and offices of the Governor and Deputy-Governor of Lagos State.
Alawusa also has a vibrant and growing Central Business District with several multinational business concerns like Cadbury Nigeria Plc and many others having their offices located in the area.
Since Thursday of the previous week, thousands of Nigerians have marched in Lagos and other cities to demand an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, or SARS, a police unit accused of extrajudicial killings and abuses.
The government announced Sunday the unit will be disbanded, but many Nigerians are skeptical, as officials have promised an end to the unit and its alleged abuses before.
Think about it. MC Oluomo paid Baba Alado to obtain thugs from mushin to disrupt the Peaceful #AlausaProtest because his boss’ (Jagaban) funds is seriously being fu.cked with. If for anything, we already have the government in a tight corner.#EndSARSpic.twitter.com/znPDe78dhX
