Eid-el-Fitr: Ganduje Insists Eid Prayers In Kano Despite Coronavirus

The Kano State Government has been given a 14-day ultimatum by the Joint Labour Union to immediately pay back the money that was deducted from May 2020 salaries of workers in the state or they will go on strike.

The union released a statement where it stated that the state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has violated the agreement of 2019 and should be quickly reversed.

The joint union also charged the Ganduje-led government to implement the N30,000 minimum wage and also settle unpaid arrears or face the consequences, starting with a seven-day warning strike.

The Chairman of NLC in the state, Kabiru Ado Minjibir, while speaking on the development noted that when they heard about the plan to deduct salaries they contacted the government, but they were silent and went ahead to do it.

“Therefore, we reject in its entirety the illegal and illogical deductions from workers’ salaries in the month of May 2020 and call on the government to respect the collective bargaining agreement reached between the government and the Labour on consequential adjustment arising from N30,000 minimum wage law implementation in December 2019 and stop further deductions unconditionally.”

NLC called on the Kano State government to immediately pay the April-November 2019 arrears to all categories of civil servants in the state in line with the agreement reached between government and labour (JNC) in December 2019 on consequential adjustment.

Kabiru Ado Minjibir warned that “Failure by the Kano State government to meet the stipulated demands by the organized labour, within the given 14 days which starts from Wednesday, 27 May 2020 to Monday 15th June 2020, the union will have no option than to embark on a seven-day warning strike.“
