Gov Makinde lifts ban on Churches, Mosques services in Oyo

The Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, on Friday, lifted the suspension of services in the churches and mosques in the state.

Thew governor in a statement in Ibadan by Adeniran Adenuga, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, expressed gratitude to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishops, Bishops, Priests, Pastors, Christians of various denominations, and the entire Muslim community for their support and cooperation during the period of suspension of public worship in the state in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

Governor Makinde acknowledged that the understanding and cooperation of religious leaders contributed immensely in containing the Coronavirus outbreak in the state.

The governor noting his being conscious of Spiritual Economy in modern society, and in response to appeals by religious leaders in the state, has issued the executive orders that: –

The order suspending public worship in the state, is hereby, lifted with effect from Sunday May 24, 2020. Consequently, starting from Sunday, May 24, 2020, church services are permitted but should be limited to the sitting capacity of the Church. Same applies to the Mosques.

The governor also ordered that the use of nose mask is compulsory for all worshipers.

He further directed that Churches and Mosques should provide buckets for hand washing, or sanitizers.

Churches and Mosques were advised to strictly keep to the above instructions. It was added that the enforcement team will still go around to check compliance with the executive orders.
