Boko Haram insurgents reportedly burned down many houses in Korongilum, a community in Chibok local government area of Borno state, as residents run for their lives.

TheCables reports that the insurgents came into the community around 6pm, shooting sporadically and setting many houses on fire on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.

“People were just returning to their houses from the farm when the insurgents came in.

“They came in through Forfor, and our people are running for safety as we speak.” a resident said.

A military source said troops from the Nigerian Army’s 28 task force brigade and 117 battalion, both headquartered in Chibok, are already on their way to Korongilum.

“In fact, the brigade and the battalion commanders are the ones leading soldiers to the attack,” the source said.

Meanwhile, kanyiDaily had reported that women and children numbering over 1000 abandoned their homes in remote communities in Borno State for the streets of Maiduguri, after the recent Boko Haram attacks.

Boko Haram insurgents had recently killed over 30 civilians and kidnapped many travellers who were stranded outside the military entrance city gate in Auno town, Konduga local government area of Borno state.

Barely hours after President Muhammadu Buhari’s consolation visit to Maiduguri, the insurgents launched another attack on Jiddari Polo general area of the metropolis, as residents fled their homes into the heart of the city.
