The Nasarawa State Police Command and some people protesting the controversial Supreme Court judgment in Nasarawa have clashed.
The incident took place in Lafia- the Nasarawa State Capital. Afterward, the police reported the apprehension of 38 demonstrators accusing them of public disturbance following the recent Supreme Court ruling that upheld the election of Governor Abdullahi Sule in the state.
Subsequently, the suspects were swiftly presented before the Chief Magistrates’ Court 3 in Lafia and were remanded at the Lafia Custodial Centre.
The individuals faced charges before the court, with the prosecuting counsel, Danjuma Allu, bringing the case before Chief Magistrate Mohammed Abdullahi Lanze. The ruling on their bail application has been deferred to Monday.
Illiya Ashokpa, the defense counsel, sought bail for the protesters, but the request was denied during the hearing. The arrested individuals included five males and 33 females.
DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, affirmed the arrest and subsequent legal proceedings by the command.
It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court, on Friday, affirmed the electoral victory of Governor Abdullahi Sule, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state.
