The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the governorship election in Plateau State.
Mutfwang defeated Nantawe Yilwatda of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who is believed to be the anointed candidate and preferred successor of Simon Lalong, the outgoing Plateau state governor and the director-general of the APC presidential campaign for the general election.
The INEC Returning Officer, Prof Idris Amali said Mutfwang scored 525,299 votes to defeat Yilwatda who polled 481,370 votes while Patrick Dakum of the Labour Party (LP) came a distant third with 60,310 votes.
Mutfwang won in 10 LGAs — Qua’an Pan, Bassa, Lantang North, Barkin Ladi, Langtang South, Pokkos, Riyom, Jos East, Mikang, and Mangu.
The APC candidate secured the highest number of votes in the remaining seven LGAs — Jos East, Kanke, Kanam, Pankshin, Shendam, Wase and Jos North.
KanyiDaily had also reported how the PDP governorship candidate in Delta, Sheriff Oborevwori defeated Ovie Omo-Agege to win the governorship election in the state.
