A 26-year-old lady Rukayat Shittu has won a seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly in the just conducted Governorship and state assembly elections held on March 18th.
According to reports, Rukayat Shittu is a former Senate President of the Congress of Students at the National Open University of Nigeria.
She was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s returning officer, Professor Hakeem Ijaya.
Shittu contested the poll on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, polling 7,521 votes to beat her Peoples Democratic Party rival, who garnered 6,957 votes.
Rukayat will represent Owode/Onire Constituency in the Asa Local Government Area of Kwara.
Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that the governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Abba Yusuf has won the Kano governorship election in the state.
Abba Yusuf defeated the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the current deputy governor of the state, Yusuf Gawuna.
