Youths in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State came out in their numbers to protest the demise of a man who complained of pains and died a few hours after he was released from the police cell in the locality.
The protesters claimed he was tortured by the police, who they alleged collected N500 to grant him bail.
They attempted to burn the Police Divisional Headquarters in Ore but were repelled by sporadic gunshots from the police.
It was gathered the deceased whose identity could not be ascertain was among some persons arrested last Saturday night when the police raided the Evergreen Hotel and other spots.
A source said after the deceased was released his health condition worsen due to alleged torture.
“Every other person raided alongside the deceased was granted bail with the sum of N20,000 and was paid through a PoS machine stationed at the police station,” the source said.
“His family took him to the hospital after securing his bail with N500 and took him to the hospital where he was died after he complained of pains all over his body,”
Youths of the community and family members took the corpse to the police station to express their grievances but policemen at the station shot sporadically into the air to scare them away.
