Chrisland Schools: ‘My daughter died of electrocution, I have evidence’

Michael Adeniran, the father of the 12-year-old student of Chrisland International School, who died during the school inter-house sports events in Lagos has said his daughter died of electrocution.

Naija News reports that the father of the deceased made the claim during an interview with the BBC Pidgin on Sunday.

This comes after a voice note made the rounds online, alleging that Whitney Adeniran died of electrocution.

A pupil who witnessed the tragic incident said the deceased stepped on a naked wire from a candy flox machine.

However, in a statement on Sunday, Chrisland Schools expressed sadness over the incident, describing the death as painful and the institution is heartbroken and depressed.

The school refuted the claims that Whitney participated in sports activities during the inter-house sports, stressing she did not give any reason for her refusal.

They recalled that Whitney complained of health issues in January and the parents were contacted before her father came to the school to take her home.

The school said the deceased slumped in public view and not under any hidden circumstances and was rushed to the nearest medical facility for first aid.

Chrisland, however, appealed to the Adeniran family to establish a scientific verification of the underlying cause of their daughter’s death before her burial.

Whitney’s Father Speaks

Speaking on Sunday, Whitney’s father debunked claims that her daughter died from cardiac arrest, noting she was hale and hearty.

According to him, Whitney died of electrocution and he has documented evidence of it adding she died due to the water poured on her.

In his words: “She died from the naked wire from one cotton candy vendor machine after she touched it and she was electrocuted immediately she leaned on it.

“I have documented evidence that my child died from electrocution and it was not Cardiac arrest.

“She was hale and hearty, she was not sick. And let me state it clearly, by the time I saw her corpse, her lips and tongue had already turned black.”
