Family breaks silence on Sammie Okposo’s death

Popular gospel singer, Sammie Okposo is dead.

His death was confirmed by his family in a statement obtained by The Nation.

The statement, which was signed by a member of the family, Hector Okposo, was released on Friday.

The Wellu Wellu master, as he is fondly called, was 51.

Okposo was also a music producer, psalmist, and CEO of Zamar Entertainment.

He released his first album Addicted in 2004.

He bagged multiple awards including KORA Best Gospel Artiste in Africa (2006), Crown SABC Best of African Gospel (2014), Afro Hollywood UK Best Gospel Artiste (2005), NEA Best Gospel Artiste of the Year (2007&2013), and NMA Best Contemporary Gospel Artiste among others.

The official statement reads: “It is with a heavy heart but with total submission to God that I announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, Minister of God, Sammie Okposo.

“Sammie slept and went to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, November 25, 2022. More details about the burial will be communicated soon.

“We are consoled because we know that he is with Jesus singing with angels. We kindly request that the family is allowed to grieve peacefully at this time.”
