There is a cholera outbreak in two local government areas of Adamawa state with 11 confirmed cases and two deaths.
The state Ministry of Health which announced the outbreak in a statement on Wednesday indicated Guyuk and Shelleng as the affected LGAs
The ministry said 96 suspected cases were reviewed, from which 11 were confirmed to be cholera and following which two affected individuals have died.
The statement from the Ministry of Health and Human Services which was signed by the Director of Public Health, Dr Celine Laori, said the ministry had on the 19th of this month received reports of suspected cases of acute watery diarrhoea from Guyuk and Shelleng.
“Samples were taken and tested, out of which seven were confirmed to be cholera cases,” the statement said.
It added that as of today, the suspected cases stand at 96 and 11 confirmed positive, with 2.1 case fatality.
The health ministry said it had since the outbreak of the disease taken steps to mitigate it.
It urged health partners to give all necessary technical support and urged the general public to maintain hygiene and sanitation apart from ensuring the safety of their foods and drinking water.
