APC leaders: why Southwest must vote massively for Tinubu

All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu must get massive vote in the Southwest, leaders of the party in the zone said yesterday.

They insisted that the one-time Lagos governor remains the most experienced of those jostling to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

The National Vice Chairman of the APC (Southwest), Mr Isaacs Kekemeke, dropped the hint while addressing the media after a closed-door meeting of the APC zonal executives yesterday at the party’s Secretariat in Lagos.

Kekemeke said: “It is incumbent on us not just to deliver but to deliver very impressively. This gives us responsibility to work very hard. We have had a long strategy session.

“We have resolved to deliver to the party in the South-West, a new campaign and mobilsation strategy, new talking points, new ways of addressing, communicating and interfacing with our women and youths.

“We are going to explain to them the need for every resident, citizen and registered voters in the South-West to do the needful by ensuring that our votes are overwhelmingly delivered to our father and to our leader in the South-West, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The zone must vote for Asiwaju because he is the best and most experienced among those in the race. He is very competent and qualified with a pedigree of many firsts that we can feel and touch.”

According to him, Tinubu has the vision, idea, programmes and antecedents, adding that he remains a man with ideas.

“We intend to mobilise our leaders, youths, students, women and everyone indeed in the South West to support  APC.

“We are aware that our zone has the second largest registered voters in our country and we intend to mobilise every one of the 18.3 millions voters for our party. That is the resolution of the zonal executive committee.”

Kekemeke said that Tinubu would create a new Nigeria as he created a new Lagos State, saying that he was poised about repositioning the country and improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

According to him, Tinubu belongs to Southwest, hence the more reason to support him.

“Apart from the experience and being the best, he is also one of our own. Shouldn’t we all work for our own?” Kekemeke said.

National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore said the Southwest is restrategising on its campaign and mobilisation to ensure Tinubu’s victory next year.

Omisore said the meeting of zonal party officials at the party secretariat on Acme Road, Lagos State, was part of proactive measures to ensure victory in 2023.

Omisore said the party will do its best to sell its candidate by showcasing his achievements and capacity in the last 22 years, as well as correct some of the wrong and erroneous narratives outside.

He said: “The general election is around the corner so are expected to be proactive. We are working ahead of time to sensitise our people on the need to vote Asiwaju Tinubu.  Luckily for us, for the first time in recent years, we have the candidate coming from Lagos State so we are looking to strategise and plan ahead of the elections.

“We have to vote Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and vote APC in all elections. He is the only choice we have, and that is the best we can have at this time, there is no alternative to it.”

He urged the people of the Southwest and Nigeria to avoid all forms of deception, saying ‘the best candidate is still Tinubu and we shall vote for him.
