Tyler Okonma (aka Tyler, The Creator) has been on a roll in the past two years year, dropping two projects and killing every single throwaway track. Now, the Nigerian-American rapper has announced his sixth full-length project, IGOR, which will be released later this month.
Tyler has created his own niche in the music industry, receiving acclaim for his quirky and unique style of hip-hop. His 2017 album, Flower Boy, is his best-received project to date, earning near-unanimous praise from critics and scoring the rapper his first solo Grammy nomination.
In a recent interview with GQ, the rapper revealed that he would like his next project to be commercially viable and radio-friendly. While that would have us worried if said by any other artist, we trust Tyler not to forego the quality that makes his music so special.
“I mean, I’ve been trying to get on the radio and I haven’t been super successful with that, but that time will come. If it’s not the next album, then it’s the three after that.”
IGOR – entirely written, produced and arranged by Tyler himself – will be available from May 17. Along with an expectedly stunning cover art, the rapper has already teased some of the music with short YouTube clips, however, no full song has been released yet.
