Oni came second with 330 votes in the exercise ahead of the June 18 governorship poll in Ekiti State, finishing behind Bisi Kolawole, who carried the day.
The former governor, who rejected the outcome of the exercise, is expected to name a new platform, which he intends to perch within days. Speculations are, however, rife that he may be on the way to joining the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to contest the June poll.
The Director of Media and Publicity of Segun Oni Movement, Adebayo Jackson, who disclosed in a telephone chat with newsmen, in Ado-Ekiti, however, added that the new party would be unveiled next week.
Jackson said that his principal’s decision to leave the PDP was taken at a stakeholders’ meeting, which was held at Oni’s residence in Ifaki-Ekiti, Ido/ Osi Local Council.
He stated that Oni yielded to pressure from the overwhelming majority of Ekiti people, who are desirous of returning him to power, adding that the former governor has resigned his membership of the PDP with immediate effect.
Also speaking with reporters on the telephone, the Director of Media, Segun Oni Campaign Organisation in the last primary election, Mr. Lanre Ogunsuyi said: “We have just said bye-bye to PDP, and our boss has thanked all the people that worked with him, and dissolved all the structures that ran the purported primary in PDP.
“What we have now is a confluence of people called Segun Oni Movement. By next week, we should have sorted ourselves out in line with the INEC timetable.”
