In Kano, a moving train collided with a Dangote Cement trailer and a commercial tricycle (Keke NAPEP).
At around 11:30 a.m., the event occurred along Obasanjo Road in the old city’s metropolis.
“We saw the trailer coming towards the rail line as the train was speeding. I and some other people attempted to flag down the trailer but the driver did not notice.
“Next was a heavy sound of crash,” an eyewitness who runs his businesses near the rail track said.
Another eyewitness said: “When the driver of the trailer tried to cross the rail line, the train hit the vehicle and the tricycle at the same time.”
The passengers in the tricycle were taken to Kano’s Murtala Muhammad Hospital, where they were critically hurt and unconscious.
According to eyewitnesses, the “fortunate driver” of Dangote’s trailer remained unharmed.
For hours, traffic on the Obasanjo Road was disrupted by the incident.
Security was ramped up to prevent urchins from robbing the products, and several people were observed evacuating the bags of cement carried on the truck.
It was unclear whether any of the people who were afflicted died.
A witness to the event informed The Nation that they were checking at the Murtala Muhammad Hospital to see how the injured were doing.
