According to the DAILY POST, a former Oyo State senator, High Chief Mashood Olalekan Balogun, would succeed the immediate past Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji.

The departed monarch, Oba Adetunji of the Balogun line, was the Balogun of Ibadan territory till his installation.

He succeeded Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade and ascended the throne in March 2016.

At the age of 93, Oba Adetunji passed away in the early hours of Sunday, according to our source.

According to the information accessible to DAILY POST, the next person to take the throne of Olubadan in accordance with Ibadan custom is High Chief Mashood Olalekan Balogun.

According to our source, ascension to the Olubadan stool begins with installation from Mogaji and continues with promotion to either Ajia Balogun of Ibadan land or Ajia Olubadan of Ibadan territory.

Between 1999 and 2003, Lekan Balogun, as he was affectionately known, represented the Oyo Central senatorial district.

Balogun worked as a lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State, before being promoted from Mogaji to Ajia Olubadan a few decades ago.

Dr. Muhammed Kola Balogun, Balogun’s younger brother, presently represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Balogun, a doctor of philosophy, hails from the Ali-Iwo compound in Oyo State’s Ibadan North East Local Government Area.

Balogun is the current Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, and the most senior chief in the state.

According to DAILY POST, he will succeed the monarch in accordance with Ibadan tradition.

According to our source, there are approximately 34 steps to climb to enter the Olubadan In Council.

With the exception of Iyalode, all of the council members are prospective future Olubadans.

A DAILY POST correspondent learned that to get access to the council, one must climb from Mogaji’s by one of two lines: the Olubadan (Civilian line) or the Balogun (Army line) (Military line).
