Nigeria’s COVID-19 Infections Surge As NCDC Registers 268 New Cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 268 new COVID-19 infections in ten states on Wednesday.

The current illness count represents a 161 percent rise over the 107 infections announced on Tuesday.

The National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) announced on Thursday that Lagos State, the virus’s epicenter, has reported more than half of the new infections, with a backlog of 225 cases as of December 7, 2021.

Rivers State was next on the list, with 17 cases, Enugu State had ten, and Edo had five.

Each of the states of Bauchi and Ogun reported three cases, while Oyo State reported two.

A single case was also reported in the states of Kaduna, Bayelsa, and Delta.

However, the NCDC confirmed that no one had died, and that the death toll had remained at 2,980 as of Wednesday, when the infection count had risen to 215,164.

There were 4,664 active cases, with 207,520 infected people treated and discharged from hospitals, according to the report.

According to the agency, the states of Bayelsa and Lagos have a backlog of five and two discharged cases, respectively, as of December 7, 2021.

Since the virus was declared on February 27, 2020, the NCDC said that the country has examined 3,629,527 samples.
