Shortly after they regained freedom from their abductors, Kaduna State Government on Saturday reunited the remaining 61 abducted members of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Kakau Daji and nine other victims, to their families.

The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan while handing over the victims to their family members at the Albarka Baptist Church, Gwari Avenue, Barnawa, Kaduna, said the state was informed of the victims’ release by the military at the point of their release by the bandits.

The Commissioner noted that before handing over the victims to the state government, the military had carried out extensive medical evaluation of the abducted worshippers who had spent over 35 days as well as other victims kidnapped along Kaduna – Kachia road, in the bandits’ den.

This is coming barely 24 hours after bandits stormed Ungwan Gimbiya, in the same Chikun LG of the state, killing two persons while over 50 members of the community were abducted by the hoodlums in the early hours of  Friday.

Ungwan Gimbiya is located around the Sabo area of the state, and has witnessed mass exodus of residents from the area following the activities of bandits.

The community is a few kilometres away from Kakau Daji where over 60 worshippers of Emmanuel Baptist Church were kidnapped on Sunday 31, October, 2021 during a church service.

The commissioner was however silent on whether the victims’ families paid the N99 million ransom demanded by the bandits.

This was just as the commissioner disclosed that more troops had been added to the ‘Operation Thunders Storm’ following the recent attack on the Kaduna – Abuja highways.

The Commissioner said: “The military authority reached out to the Kaduna State Government that they have in their possession over 60 victims of kidnapping and that they want to hand over the victims to the us. And the Kaduna State government took possession of the citizens and we handed them over to the leadership of the Kaduna Baptist Conference and their relations.

“There are other citizens that their relations are equally here and we did the same thing. But from what we can see, most of the victims are members of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Kakau Daji, Chukin Local Government Area of the state and there are other citizens that were kidnapped along the Kaduna-Abuja highway, Kachia

“The military made sure they carried out extensive medical evaluation of the kidnapped victims. And on the side of the government, if there is the need to do post trauma evaluation with rehabilitation, we are ready. We will do that.

“Once they seek help, the Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development will carry out the trauma exercise with them.”

The Commissioner also solicited for assistance from citizens, noting that security was not the business of the government alone.
