Abdulaziz Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State, has had a relative kidnapped by bandits.
NEWS DIRECT discovered Auwal Hussain, Yari’s brother-in-law, was kidnapped during an infiltration of his home in Talata Marafa.
Hussain and a neighbor were kidnapped by motorcycle-riding thugs on Monday night, but the news didn’t get out until Thursday evening.
The criminals invaded the area around 11:30 p.m., shooting intermittently to scare inhabitants away, according to a local.
Hussain, he said, is Yari’s first wife’s brother and used to live at the former governor’s private mansion before he married.
“We heard when the bandits came in the night. They came on motorcycles and shot in the air to scare people. It was in the night around 11:30 p.m.
“The fact that bandits could come into this area considered to be the safest in Talata Mafara, which is also the second-largest town in the state, is scary. They operated for over an hour without security personnel coming to challenge them,” he said.
