The federal ministry of works and housing has appealed to truck drivers over the ongoing rehabilitation on Bida-Lambata road in Niger state.

In a statement on Saturday, Babangida Hussaini, permanent secretary of the ministry, said the government is working to deliver quality work that will stand “the test of time”.

On Friday, the drivers blocked roads in and out of Bida town in protest over the “slow work” on the Bida-Lambata road.

The drivers asked the government to immediately reopen the road, which they said serves as an alternative route.

But Hussaini said the rehabilitation has not gotten to sections of the road that had collapsed.

The permanent secretary also expressed concern over the refusal of the truck drivers to allow the contractor access to the site.

“I am appealing to the truck drivers for understanding of the efforts of the federal government in fixing this road,” he said.

“This Bida-Lambata road is among many other ongoing projects across the nation which the government prioritised to deliver.

“The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari gives premium to providing road infrastructure across the country as a way of improving the social and economic well-being of the people.

“The federal government, through the federal controller of works in Niger state, is working round the clock with the contractors on site to ensure not only timely completion, but to deliver a qualitative road that would stand the test of time.”
