THE Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, has dismissed threats by aggrieved party leaders to deny Governor Seyi Makinde a second term.
State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Akeem Olatunji, described the leaders as a bunch of jokers whose action was inconsequential.
He said this in response to a no confidence vote passed on the governor by the aggrieved party leaders.
Olatunji said, “That is the joke of the century. There were no critical stakeholders at the party and those aggrieved leaders are just seeking attention. They should go and test their political worth at the designated wards during the congress instead of seeking to use that to negotiate.
“There are over 200 groups within the PDP in Oyo State and if one group out of the 200 groups they passed vote of no confidence in the governor it means they are doing that for pecuniary gains and they are doing that to negotiate PDP out of power in the state.”
He said this in response to statements credited to party leaders including: A former deputy governor of the state, Hazeem Gbolarumi, a former Majority Leader, House of Representatives, Mrs Mulikat Adeola-Akande, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, Femi Babalola, Nureni Akanbi, among others.
The party leaders had in a communique read by Michael Okunlade after a stakeholders/elders meeting in Ibadan, ahead of the congress of the party scheduled for September 25.
The communique read in part, “Members are assured that efforts are being made at the state and national levels to ensure that the ownership of PDP reverts back to members of the party.
“The meeting prays for a peaceful conduct of the PDP congress which is behind on Saturday, September 25 through October 16, 2021.
“The meeting rose with the passing of a vote of no confidence in the leadership of Seyi Makinde of the Oyo State PDP.”
