Telecommunication services have been shut down in at least 13 local government areas in Katsina, the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Daily Trust reports that the development is speculated to be one of the strategies taken by security operatives to clamp down on bandits in the state.
The affected local government areas include: Sabuwa, Faskari, Dandume, Batsari, Danmusa, Kankara, Jibia, Safana, Dutsin-Ma, Funtua, Bakori, Malumfashi and Kurfi.
The above-mentioned areas are located on the outskirts of the Ruggu forest in Kaduna where most of the bandits are known to be hiding.
This comes a week after the Nigerian Communications Commission directed telecommunications operators to shut down their services in Zamfara, another state overtaken by bandits.
