Disappointedly, Serena Williams has announced her decision to withdraw from the US Open due to a hamstring injury.
The latest decision of the 23 Grand slams singles’ winner has left majority of her fans who are charging the 39-year-old to equal that of the Australian Margaret Court’s 24 Grand slams singles disenchanted.
Sadly, Serena had torn her hamstring during a match at Wimbledon earlier this summer and was forced to retire as a result.
And after some lengthy consideration, Williams has now confirmed she will not be participating at Flushing Meadows in order to give her body more time to recover to the dissatisfaction of her teeming fans.
‘After careful consideration and following the advice of my doctors and medical team, I have decided to withdraw from the US Open to allow my body to heal completely from a torn hamstring,’ she said on Instagram
‘New York is one of the most exciting cities in the world and one of my favourite places to play – I’ll miss seeing the fans but will be cheering on from afar.
‘Thank you for your continued love and support. I’ll see you soon.’
Sequel to Williams’ latest decision, the six-time US Open title holder has become the latest in a string of big name players to pull out of the competition which begins on August 30
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and defending men’s champion Dominic Thiem have all also been forced to withdraw.
