Prince Tunji Ogunwusi, a brother to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has been summoned to appear in court by Justice K.O. Dawodu of the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere.
Tunji was summoned in connection with the role his company, Prime Waterview Holdings, played in a housing scheme by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).
More than 800 persons applied to the housing scheme, which was supposed to be carried out by Ogunwusi’s company.
However, years after the money was paid, individuals involved are yet to get their properties delivered, which prompted that the case to be taken to court.
The case was instituted by 26 of the subscribers, who want a refund.
Ogunwusi is not the only person summoned by the court. Mrs Ifeyinwa Omowole and Mrs Tosin Odusola, the NAWOJ President and National Treasurer, respectively, were also summoned. Mr Deji Elumoye, the immediate past NUJ Chairman, Lagos State Council, was also ordered to appear before the court.
Reports reaching us at news time have it that Omowole in collaboration with Odusola and Elumoye initiated the idea, first tagging a housing scheme for female journalists, then for both male and female journalists, before it was finally made open to all Nigerians.
The respondents are to appear before the judge on April 10 at 2pm “to give reasons for their refusal to submit”.
A date had earlier been fixed for March, but the respondents, through their counsel, begged for a change of hearing date to April with the promise that their clients would be available on the new date.
