President Muhammadu Buhari gave a blanket order months go to shoot on sight any bandit or non-state actor hugging AK-47, but some police men discountenanced the presidential order Tuesday.
On receiving alerts from local who sighted two young Fulani boys, with one carrying an AK-47, the Imeko DPO deployed his men, along with local hunters.
The eventually caught the two Fulani boys inside CAC Oha Forest, Iwoye Ketu, Imeko Afon LGA recently after hours of combing the forest.
The gunman is identified as Mohammed, according to PPRO Abimbola Oyeyemi.
“The arrested armed boy is strongly suspected to be a member of kidnap syndicates who have been terrorizing the area for quite some time now,” he said.
Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has ordered that the suspect be moved to the State CIID in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation, adding that the entire forest be properly combed in order to arrest other members of his gang.
When Nigeria’s commander-in-chief gave the order as a result of escalating menace of bandits, many criticized him for such declaration–on the ground of human rights.
The police may likely serve up human rights as their excuse for not shooting dead the criminal—in obedience to the last order
