Mallam Idris Mohammed, the Niger State Commissioner for Information and Strategy has been abducted by suspected bandits.
Mohammed was reportedly abducted at his Baban Tunga residence in the Tafa Local Government Area of the state on Sunday night.
Populations in the northwest and northeast regions of Nigeria are facing an ever-increasing threat of banditry, a type of organized crime that includes kidnapping, armed robbery, murder, rape, cattle-rustling, and the exploitation of environmental resources.
The bandits are not sparing the top brass in the society either. In July 2021, unknown gunmen abducted an All Progressives Congress (APC) politician, Uba Boris, in Bauchi metropolis.
According to multiple reports, he was accosted by the gunmen at the CBN roundabout, close to the AA Rano filling station along the Federal Lowcost road in the night.
The gunmen who were riding on two power-bikes fired gunshots in the air to scare away people around the area.
