Agitations: Court orders DSS to produce Igboho, others July 29

Obiorah Egwuatu of the Federal High sitting in , on Friday, ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to produce 12 agitators arrested and placed in detention since July 2.

The gave the order following an ex parte motion moved by Pelumi Olajengbesi on behalf of the applicants.

The motion was dated 7th July and filed on the 8th.

By the motion, the applicants had prayed for an order of mandating and compelling the respondents to produce them in for them to be arraigned.

“We equally seek an order directing the respondent (DSS) to produce the applicants and show cause why the applicants should not be granted bail.

“They have been in the custody of the DSS since 2nd July, 2021. By way of adumbration, the nature of the application is such that the applicants have approached the court to seek ‘protection and refuge’ from undue of their fundamental .

“For about 20 days, the applicants have remained on the ground, and denied access to their lawyers and relatives,” Olajengbesi submitted.

The applicants’ lawyer reminded the court that the sole purpose of democracy “is to ensure that government agencies and citizens abide by the .”

“If the application is not granted, the purpose of the to protect the rights of citizens is violated.”

After listening to the applicant’s motion, Egwuatu ordered the DSS to produce the applicants in court on the next adjourned date of July 29.
