Embattled Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, and his wife, Ropo were on Thursday interrogated by Beninese security operatives.
It was learnt that Igboho and his wife who have been in custody of Brigade criminelle since their arrest, have been undergoing grilling since Wednesday.
Igoho and his wife, a German citizen were arrested at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou, as they attempted to board a flight to Germany on Monday.
But Igboho had filed for political asylum before his arrest.
The Nation learnt the Thursday hearing was almost stalled because it was taken to a court identified as ‘Ajase’ in another state but was later changed to another court - Cour De’appal De Cotonou – after last minute intervention.
According to eyewitnesses, when Igboho and his wife, Ropo arrived at the court, they looked pale.
Igboho was grilled for immigration-related offences.
A supporter who spoke during a live update monitored by The Nation said: “I’m happy to see Chief Sunday Igboho, he is fine and Oloye is doing well. We should not panic; let us just keep praying to baba.”
Igboho’s spokesman, Koiki, who gave an update on case around 6pm on Thursday said: “We thank those who have joined us from all over the world to know what is happening in Cotonou.
“The case is still ongoing, that is what we can say for now. Our legal representatives are working so we should entertain no fear.
“Benin Republic respects its laws and we have to appreciate that instead of listening to distractions. We all know that Igboho is not a criminal or terrorist.
“Let us therefore allow the lawyers to do their work. We all want to know the outcome of the case but let us be patient for now. Maybe, there will be more updates today or tomorrow. Whatever happens will be in our favour.
“Let us remain focused; he is currently in a situation where he will be freed soon.”
The court hearing was adjourned to Friday.
