The Supreme Court has set July 28, 2021 as the date for the start of hearings in the action brought by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest his victory in the October 10, 2020 governorship election.

Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, had filed an appeal against the Court of Appeal’s ruling validating Akeredolu’s victory.

Remember that on July 16, 2021, the Court of Appeal, led by Justice Theresa Orji-Abadua, dismissed Jegede’s case while maintaining Akeredolu’s victory in the election.

The Appeal Court decided four and a half of the seven points raised for resolution in Jegede’s favor and two and a half in Akeredolu’s favor in its decision.

Not pleased with the Appellate Court’s judgment, Akeredolu, Jegede, and INEC petitioned the Supreme Court to have the Election Petition Tribunal and Appeal Court declared unlawful.
