The  All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State on Sunday presented the party’s flags to its candidates for the Local Government elections in the state scheduled for July 24, with a charge to them to ensure a total victory for the party across the 13, 325 polling units in the State.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who presented the flags to the 57 chairmanship and vice-chairmanship candidates at the APC Secretariat in Acme road, Ikeja, said the party was certain of victory in the council elections which will be conducted into the 20 Local Government Areas and  37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of Lagos State on Saturday.

The governor who said the party leaders at various local governments will present flags to all the councillorship candidates, described the official handing over of APC flags to all candidates as significant and important.
According to him, the idea is to ensure that the candidates carry out real transformational changes at the grassroots level.

“By the Power of God, you will do it and you will succeed. All of you must do the work together. We have been doing it in the state, the local government election will also succeed.
“We are here to hand over the significant flags to our flagbearers – the chairmanship candidates and their vices, and of course supported by our various LGA (Local Government Areas) chairmen.
“Go forth to the various local governments and to the various wards and ensure that you do the same to our councillors and campaign in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
“We are believing that with this significant event, it will signpost our seriousness at the next local government election.
“We are certain that the success we are currently enjoying at the national and the state will also be translated at the local government election,” the governor said.
Speaking further, he said “ As a state government, we will continue to ensure that our own development agenda is reflective in all local government areas because we own all the local governments. What we expect from them is to also carry on with that and ensure that once they come in, they can hit the ground running in all of the wards that we have,” the governor said.
The governor, who commended some of the chairmen for doing very well at their various local government areas, said: “That is why some of them are returning. We are also admonishing the ones that haven’t done well to improve. We have a lot of new people that are coming up. The whole idea is for us to be able to have real transformational changes at the grassroots.
“The Federal, state and the local governments are three-tiers of government. Everyone has a role to play. As a state government, we will continue to ensure that our own development agenda is reflective in all local government areas because we own all the local governments. What we expect from them is to also carry on with that and ensure that once they come in, they can hit the ground running in all the wards that we have.”
The governor urged the party’s flag-bearers to be complemental as well as to do more, saying: “We will be monitoring them on a quarterly basis with the Speaker and the Deputy Governor and come up with things around who is doing what so that they can create a healthy rivalry among themselves. That is what we expect and we are praying and hoping that at the polls, APC will come tops. They will do well and will not disappoint all the people that have voted them into power.”
Earlier In his welcome address, state Chairman of the party, Hon Tunde Balogun congratulated all the chairmanship and vice chairmanship candidates while also warning them against removing names of councillorship candidates from the list of names given to them by the party.

He thereafter charged all the candidates and members of the party to campaign vigorously and seek the supports of the electorates to ensure the party emerges victorious at the polls.

Also present at the ceremony was the deputy governor of the State, Dr Kadiri Hamzat, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, members of the Governors Advisory Council and the party’s State executive members.
