The National Assembly Complex, according to Senate President Ahmad Lawan, is in desperate need of repair.

Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, the Senate’s Deputy Chief Whip, raised a point of order, prompting Lawan’s remarks.

On Tuesday, Abdullahi claimed that several media accounts concerning the leakage and flooding of the chambers owing to a severe downpour were full of falsehoods, casting doubt on members’ honesty.

On Tuesday, the Senate lobby of the National Assembly complex was swamped with water, with cleaners battling to keep the water out of the chambers.

Senators came into the Chambers at 11 a.m., asking where such a large volume of water was coming from, as it had poured directly from the damaged roof during the downpour.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration is responsible for the upkeep of the National Assembly complex (FCTA).

The sum of N37 billion was planned for the complex’s maintenance in the 2020 budget, according to NewsDirect, which provoked wild reactions from the public, including Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
