In what will come across as a really startling development, two female hawkers were crushed to death by a truck around Lotto, inbound Lagos, on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Friday.

The Spokesman, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

Akinbiyi reported that the incident occurred around 3:30 pm, adding that the driver of the truck, marked SMK 82 XY, lost control, skidded off the road and rammed into the roadside hawkers, killing them on the spot.

He stated that three other people were injured in the accident.

“The truck has been taken to Mowe Divisional Police Station, with the driver in their custody,” Akinbiyi said.

Akinbiyi said that the deceased were deposited at the Idera morgue in Sagamu, while the injured were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe.

The TRACE spokesman commiserated with the family of the deceased and also urged motorists to avoid excessive speeding and reckless driving on the road.
