…says Nigerians suffering under Buhari’s govt

Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, spoke out against the indiscriminate killings of his people by armed Fulani militants yesterday, asking residents of the state to arm themselves in order to protect themselves against their assailants. He claimed that the state’s slaughter of innocent people had gone on for far too long, and that the people could no longer sit by and watch aliens invade, butcher the people, and walk away unpunished.

GovernorOrtom, who talked with journalists in Makurdi immediately after returning from the PDP governors’ meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, claimed he had elevated all women to males so they could join the fight against the state’s increasing insurgency. Hundreds of people were slaughtered by invading armed herders in Guma, Gwer-West, Gwer East, and Makurdi Local Government Areas, according to the governor.

“I tell you the truth, everyone in Benue State should be armed to defend themselves; and as Governor of Benue State, I have upgraded all ladies to males, so everyone should have something to defend themselves with,” he stated.

I’m not going to talk about killings again; you can’t just sit in your house and let someone come in and kill you and believe you’ll be satisfied with that.

My people have been told to protect themselves, and even the Minister of Defense has declared that people should protect themselves, so why can’t my people protect themselves?

“People should rise up, and if you don’t have the legal weapons that are available, go to your place of employment and obtain them, and that’s it.” Governor Ortom praised the Ibadan meeting, saying it provided PDP governors with an opportunity to advise President Muhammadu Buhari on how to address the country’s worsening security situation and economic slump. He expressed concern that Nigerians, even those in positions of leadership, were suffering, emphasizing the need for citizens to band together, regardless of political differences, to pull the country back from the brink.

Nigerians, and all of us, including the leaders, are suffering. We are dissatisfied with what is occurring, and if we are to remain as a nation, we must set partisanship aside to confront this issue.”
