A young man identified as Essien Akpaniko Okon is currently on the run after allegedly killing his friend, Ephraim Edet Okon George, over N30,000 debt in Gibbs Street, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

According to reports, the suspect was owing the deceased N30k and had threatened to kill him if he ever asked for the money, while boasted about having an uncle who is a judge.

It was learnt that on Wednesday night AkpanIko called Ephraim to come collect the money, only to run him over with an unregistered Lexus car while the deceased was walking down the street.

Ephraim was immediately rushed to Life Care hospital by good Samaritans while Akpan in the company of armed men suspected to be police officers, visited the hospital and carted away the only eye witness.

“When they discovered that Ephraim had passed on, the said armed men rushed Akpan out by shooting sporadically into the air when residents wanted to accost him. They claimed the residents wanted to kidnap him.

“Prior to his planned execution, Akpan has been threatening Ephraim that he’ll kill him if he asked for the said debt after all he has influential members in their church and an uncle who is a judge that will help to trash out the case. O God, your vengeance!!,” a source said

It was gathered that the suspect, Essien Akpaniko, is son the of a late wealthy pastor, Rev. OJ Essien, who was deported from abroad on account of criminality.
