Asari Dokubo, a former militant leader has been suspended by the Eastern Zonal Chapter of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC.
Incidentally, IYC was founded by Dokubo in 1998 as a human rights movement to fight for Ijaw interests.
Asari was leader of the group from 2001 to 2004.
Asari was suspended for declaring “Biafra de facto Customary Government.”
Other IYC members who joined Dokubo in the putative Biafra government were also suspended.
Festus Dango, Chairman of the Okrika Chapter of the IYC, moved the motion for the suspension at the zonal elective congress of the IYC.
Dango cited that Dokubo failed to consult before announcing his Biafra contraption
Dango said Biafra is a “non-existent sovereign state within Ijaw territories.”
Asari Dokubo had earlier last week declared himself leader of what he termed as ‘Biafra de facto Customary Government’.
