Mixed reactions have trailed the ongoing hijab controversy in Kwara state.

THE NATION had reported the controversy started over three weeks ago when officials of Saint Anthony Secondary School prevented Muslim female students from gaining entrance to the school with hijab claiming it is a missionary school.

Pandemonium broke out Wednesday in Ilorin, Kwara state capital following the State Government’s directive for the reopening of shut grant-aided schools in the state.

No fewer than five persons were reportedly injured in the clash.

THE NATION gathered that Muslim and Christian groups threw stones over resumption of the schools with many injured.

Irked by the violent clash, many Nigerians took to social media to call on the Kwara State Government to address the issue by providing long-lasting solutions.

Social media influencer, Dr. Dípò Awójídé said: “I hope the Kwara State Government can arrest this situation immediately, call religious leaders and leaders of the Parents Teachers Association in Kwara State together and resolve whatever differences they have. Those who need to go to court as well should do so.”

FS Yusuf said: “If you check that school for Kwara for this Hijab case, na poor man school. Big man school, them no send religion o. Foolish Nigerians!”

“I don’t think Hijab should be a reason for a clash between Muslims and Christians in Kwara State, Muslim ladies should be allowed to wear hijab to schools, provided the schools ain’t owned by Christian and Christian ladies shouldn’t be forced to wear Hijab, it’s very simple,” @MFaarees_ tweeted.

“Is it crime to say No Hijabs in Christians Missionaries Schools, Kwara? Why can’t they both agree with the norm by using beret?” Ayemojubar queried

@DrOlufunmilayo said: “If the schools belong to the state govt, then the state will decide the dress code. …IF the schools belong to missionaries, then the private owners will decide the dress code… So who OWNS those schools in Kwara? Is it govt or the missionaries? The owner decides the dress code.”

Jessica Ogwatar sai: “Christians Missionaries Schools in Kwara state have full rights to reject the wearing of Hijabs by their students…If you are not OK with that, then look for Islamic school.”

@DE_COMMUNICATOR said: “Kwara State govt should do the needful on the controversies concerning Hijab for schools in Ilorin. Hijab should be allowed for Muslim students and not imposed on Christian students… Simple!! Islamic scholars should ALWAYS ring the bell of no compulsion in Islam.”
