The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has congratulated Nigerian music stars Burna Boy and Wizkid over their Grammy Award victories.
Recall that Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album category for his album ‘Twice As Tall’, while Wizkid won the Best Music Video for his song with Beyoncé titled ‘Brown Skin Girl’.
The Special Assistant to the President on Media, Segun Adeyemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said the minister described the “much-deserved awards” as fitting rewards for the “persistent hard work of the duo”.
According to him, the awards represented a global endorsement for the Afrobeat genre of music that has propelled Nigeria’s increasing dominance in the music world.
Mr Adeyemi quoted the minister as expressing hope that prestigious awards would not only “spur the singers to greater heights but would also serve as a source of inspiration for others”.
