Gunmen Attack Sokoto Community, Kill 10

Gunmen on Monday, attacked Amarawa village in the Ilela local government area of Sokoto state, killing ten locals and leaving others with severe injuries.

BBC Hausa reported that the locals tried to stop the gunmen from kidnapping a wealthy businessman who also is a resident of the community.

A native of the community explained that, “The gunmen who stormed the village using motorbikes, cautioned them to stay away. Instead, the community members tried freeing the man. Agitated, the gunmen overpowered and killed many of the locals.

According to him, the gunmen succeeded and carried the business man away.

Meanwhile, the police in Sokoto confirming the attack, told the BBC Hausa that they could not give details of the incident as investigation was still ongoing.

A local said that they were getting set to bury the dead, while those who sustained bullet wounds were in the hospital where doctors had removed bullets from their bodies.

Also, locals in the community appealed to the authorities to improve security in the area as gunmen kidnap residents on daily basis.
